SGS (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd held a Client Info Day for more than 120 clients at the Penang Skills Development Centre (PSDC), Penang, on April 8th, 2014. The half-day event saw in-depth interaction with the company’s clients in Northern Peninsular Malaysia and the introduction of new services and updates on the ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 revisions.

Further extending the reach of SGS training services, clients were introduced to SGS Academy Malaysia, a professional training entity nurturing talent and enabling continuous organizational improvement to meet local training and talent development needs, that was launched in December 2013

SGS Academy Malaysia is one of 35 SGS worldwide centres of excellence, offering more than 110 training courses across 18 categories, leading to formal qualifications. It focuses on contributing to continuous improvement strategies by providing an integrated approach to all aspects of quality, health and safety, environmental, and sustainability management systems. SGS Academy’s training empowers the individual, while also recognising and formalising their skills and knowledge.

In the client sharing sessions, Ms. Rashitah Rahmat, QA System Section Manager from SilTerra Malaysia Sdn Bhd delivered a presentation about the partnership between SGS and SilTerra, a leading wafer foundry provider. Aside from certification services and classroom training specifically tailored to SilTerra’s specific industry requirements, SGS supports SilTerra on real-life operational scenarios to help further understand the applicability of standards relevant to SilTerra’s operations.

Mr. Harikrishnan Santhanam, EHS Manager of Flextronics Technology (Penang) Sdn Bhd shared the benefits of Flextronics’ alignment with corporate compliance and how working with SGS provides it with an international edge on quality and integrity. Flextronics believes the technical ability and solid ethical foundation provided by SGS auditors, who are also multi-skilled in various standards, allows them to be able to advise and provide solutions for more complex problems.

As part of the awareness for the upcoming ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001:2015 standards, Mr Kam Foo Chi, SGS Academy Training Manager presented an introduction to Annex SL, which was published in April 2012 to provide a framework upon which new and revised standards would share common requirements. An overview of the changes expected in ISO 9001:2015 was presented, based on the existing Committee Draft version. Mr Kenny Looi, General Manager of the Systems and Services Certification Division for SGS Malaysia, presented an overview of changes for ISO 14001:2015, also based on the existing Committee Draft version.
