SGS recently awarded the Chain of Custody (CoC) Certification under the PEFC-Malaysian Timber Certification Scheme (MTCS) to Setia-Wood Industries Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of SP Setia Berhad.

The certificate was presented to Mr Shanthan Suppiah, General Manager of Setia Wood Industries Sdn Bhd by Kenny Looi, General Manager of SGS Malaysia, Certificate and Business Enhancement, with Mr. Yong Teng Koon, Malaysian Timber Certification Council CEO as witness.  

With the PEFC-MTCS Certification, S P Setia effectively becomes the first property developer in Malaysia to demonstrating its commitment to incorporate sustainability practices in its projects. Customers can make informed purchasing decisions when investing in their house that they are also contributing to the sustainable management of the forest.

The MTCS is a national timber certification scheme developed and operated by the Malaysian Timber Certification Council (MTCC) to ensure the sustainable management of Malaysia’s natural forest and forest plantations, as well as to meet the demand for certified timber products. It is endorsed by the Program for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC), the largest forest certification program, representing more than 300 million ha of certified forests worldwide. In addition, the MTCS is the first tropical timber certification scheme in the Asia Pacific region to be endorsed by the PEFC.
