On 3rd June 2019, FSSC 22000, a GFSI recognised food management system, published the newly developed Version 5 of the FSSC 22000 certification scheme. The new revision incorporates all the new requirements of ISO 22000:2018 standard which was published in June 2018.

With the adoption of the new ISO 22000 high level structure in Version 5, it allows an easier integration of food safety management systems with other management systems such as quality management systems ISO 9001. Besides addressing the food safety risk, appropriate action is now required to be considered in addressing organizational risks and opportunities in order to achieve continual business growth and success.

Audits against the FSSC 22000 Scheme requirements Version 4.1 are only allowed by the latest 31st December 2019.
Transition audits to version 5 will commence from 1st January 2020 to 31st December 2020. All certified sites are required to be audited against Version 5 within this timeframe.
Under extraordinary circumstances, the Version 5 upgrade audit can be carried out the latest by year 2021 but this arrangement shall be addressed in accordance to the FSSC scheme requirements before 29th June 2021. After this date, Version 4.1 certificates will expire and the organization will need to start over with the certification process as per ISO/IEC 17021 to re-gain certification.

A new Version 5 certificate shall be issued after a successful upgrade audit (with maintaining the same certificate expiry date for surveillance audit) while the FSSC 22000 Version 4.1 certificate shall be withdrawn. All remaining Version 4.1 certificates will be automatically set to invalid by the Portal after 29th June 2021 and thus will no longer be visible as a certified organization on the FSSC 22000 website.
